Johanna Bradford's Shaker kitchen
Sweden's most kitchen inspirer - Johanna Bradford
Few people have influenced the Swedes' kitchen renovations as much as the blogger Johanna Bradford. During her approximately 12 years as a lifestyle blogger, Johanna has had time for about as many renovations and all have become very popular on social media.

Johanna's interior design style can be summed up as cozy and personal. She has a preference for open kitchen shelves where her favorite porcelain can be exposed, a mix of old and new as well as floral wallpapers and green-painted carpentry and walls. When she and her husband Adam moved into a house last year, it was time for another kitchen renovation and this time the couple chose to collaborate with Nordiska Kök.
Even though Johanna and Adam had renovated many kitchens before, they had always been about updating an existing kitchen, this was the first time they chose to build a completely new one from scratch.
The goal of the house renovation was to create a home with a feeling of a Danish coastal town and Johanna was very much inspired by the Danish jewelery designer Charlotte Lynggaard's home. When they entered the house, the kitchen floor was in apricot-colored tiles and above the oak-colored kitchen doors sat clear blue tiles. The style did not suit Johanna and Adam but they still wanted to choose a style that suited the house while it would feel like them. Therefore, it did not fit with patterned wallpaper this time, but the choice fell on a combination of modern black-stained oak cupboards and shaker cabinets in a gray-green tone.
The black-painted cupboards were lined up along one of the walls in the house where the couple took the opportunity to put in two windows so that they could do the dishes and look out in the garden. In the middle of the bench section, they put a stainless steel stove and oven as well as a industrial fan. The worktop is in Portuguese limestone and gives the kitchen an exclusive impression. The ranger stove is large and functional and is well suited for a home where a family lives who likes to cook and enjoy good food.
It's so nice to see the oak's veins through the black. Everything is built according to our wishes and adapted so that the kitchen surface is used in the best way, says Johanna on her blog.
On the other side, Johanna still could not help but paint the doors in a gray-green color. In this part of the kitchen, they chose to put an integrated fridge and freezer on each side of a kitchen counter with an open shelf above. The bench got the same fine Portuguese limestone as the black cabinets.
I love this solution with fridge and freezer on each side of a bench with open shelves in between. For me, it would actually feel empty and sad not to have open shelves in a kitchen, it gives so much personality, writes Johanna.
The beautiful porcelain collection gets a well-deserved place in the spotlight, while there is still plenty of storage space in the kitchen.
The couple has managed to create exactly the kitchen they dreamed of when they bought the house. It is functional, social, welcoming and fits nicely with the house's architecture and shape.
