Scandinavian Oak Kitchen in The Barn House

The dream of building a house had long been in the minds of photographer and interior designer Elinne Daniels and her husband Alfred. When the perfect plot of land appeared, they seized the opportunity. The result is an architect-designed barn house in a modern style, featuring a dark oak kitchen from Nordiska Kök.

Concrete floors combined with calm, soft natural materials create a beautiful harmony.

The beautiful window section allows light to flood the space, while also inviting the surrounding nature in a beautiful way.

For Elinne and Alfred, it was important to create a home that harmonized with nature while also feeling timeless and functional. When the dream of their own house began to take shape, the choice naturally fell on materials and details that would stand the test of time.

– We were looking for a natural plot where the house's character would blend into the surroundings. Together with our architect, we sketched a modern barn house with timeless and sustainable material choices that will only become more beautiful over the years, says Elinne.

The kitchen in dark-stained oak blends Scandinavian and minimalist aesthetics with rustic elements.

The view from the generous window section is strikingly beautiful and creates a sense of tranquility in the home.

The material choices are few but carefully considered in the modern barn house.

Already early in the house process, long before they had even found the plot of land, Elinne knew she wanted both a beautiful and functional kitchen. The kitchen was to be the heart of the house and serve as a stunning focal point, something she always strives for when decorating.

– When we discovered Nordiska Kök, I immediately fell in love with their quality and the fact that the kitchens are made in Sweden. When we planned the kitchen with our kitchen designer, I also appreciated that there were no impossibilities; everything was possible, and we could have it fully customized to our desires and needs, says Elinne.

Beautiful natural materials like dark oak and Carrara marble, combined with the concrete floor, make the minimalist home feel both cozy and warm.

The dark wooden kitchen aligns perfectly with the couple’s vision of beautiful natural materials, generous surfaces, and the ability for friends and family to gather around the spacious kitchen island. With open shelves and pocket door cabinets, there is also the opportunity to bring in the couple’s personal style through beautiful details, glassware, and favorite dinnerware. All the appliances are built-in, creating a calm impression, completely in line with the house's overall serene décor and color palette.

– What I appreciate most about the kitchen are the large work surfaces and that the whole family can gather around the kitchen island. The spacious countertops allow more people to be in the kitchen at the same time without it feeling cramped. The clever solution with the hidden pocket door cabinet gives the kitchen a beautiful character. Since the kitchen is open to the dining room and living room, it was also important for me to be able to hide the coffee corner when the kitchen isn’t in use, says Elinne.

The smart and beautiful pocket door cabinet is used frequently by the family and is a favorite of Elinne's.

Elinne and Alfred carefully chose their plot of land, drawing inspiration from the beautiful elements of nature.

Elinne, who now works as a real estate photographer, describes her style as Scandinavian and minimalist, where the choice of materials plays an important role. "When we chose materials, it was important to create a timeless feel and a cohesive flow throughout the house. We also wanted the plot to be part of the interior, with the large windows blurring the line between indoors and outdoors," says Elinne.

The couple chose concrete floors throughout the entire house, the same tiles and ceramics in all the bathrooms, and all the walls and ceilings were painted in the same color. The dark-stained oak is repeated in both the kitchen and bathrooms, creating harmony and a consistent theme throughout the house.

Elinne Daniels now works as a real estate photographer but has a background in interior design, which is clearly reflected in the beautiful house.

Carefully thought-out furniture and details that follow a subdued color palette.

Rustic details make the kitchen feel even more personal and unique.

Building a house is both an incredibly fun process but also, of course, somewhat challenging, says Elinne, who shares her best tip: not to rush anything but to really feel out the space and balance.

– Building a house and planning every little detail is a long but wonderful process. My advice to those in the same situation is to be patient and not rush. It's about finding the right balance and truly feeling that every choice is the right one for you.
