Sophie Odelberg's architect-designed home in Ottsjö, Åre, captures the essence of nature, offering a sustainable living space that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding mountain landscape.
For photographer Sophie Odelberg, travel has always been an integral part of her lifestyle, closely tied to her profession. Yet, one place she always returns to—both personally and professionally—is Åre and the beautiful mountain landscape of Jämtland, in northern Sweden.
Sophie and her fiancé, Gustav, share an active lifestyle filled with skiing, mountain climbing, and running. For years, they dreamed of having their own cabin in the area. With strong family and friend connections to Jämtland and Åre, combined with their deep love for nature and the mountains, it felt only natural that Ottsjö would be the place where they finally built their mountain cabin together.
The kitchen features details that reflect nature's textures – pine walls, a rustic wooden floor, a natural stone countertop, and warm wood tones that together create a natural, earthy feel.

The vision behind Fjället Cabin was to reimagine the traditional barn-house style while ensuring sustainability remained a guiding principle. This is reflected in the use of natural materials throughout the house and kitchen.
“The whole idea was to reimagine the barn-house style. Nature is an essential part of our lives, and we love being in it. It only felt right that if we were to build a house, a mountain home, it should reflect our values.”

– When we started creating mood boards for the house, one of the first images we saved was of a dark wooden kitchen by Nordiska Kök. Both Gustav and I instantly fell in love with it. After doing further research, we discovered that Nordiska Kök is a Swedish-owned company that manufactures their kitchens in Sweden, which was really important to us. When we had our first meeting and felt that our values aligned, we knew we had found the perfect match, says Sophie.
