Slow living on Österlen
The founders behind the design concept TypeO open bed and breakfast in the attic in their farmhouse on the scenic Skåne landscape. A bespoke wooden kitchen from us at Nordiska kök is the room's hub; here guests can cook from local ingredients from the area.

In the middle of the rolling Skåne landscape, softly nestled in forest, fields and the sea, lies an elegant gray stone-farmhouse. Design journalist and art director Micha van Dinther lives here with marketing strategist Magnus Wittbjer. Micha is a born and bred globetrotter who previously had about 200 travel days a year and who lived in Tokyo and Los Angeles, among other places.
Together with Magnus, who also traveled and lived in many places, five years ago they demolished the settlements on this rural farm with the dream of a new way of life. Magnus and Micha created a new life by moving to the farm and starting the concept TypeO, which sells hand-picked design objects that are both beautiful and functional.
- Since we transformed our lives, so much has changed, both in terms of our physical and emotional well-being. Life in the countryside gives us perspective on life. We want to give more people the chance to experience what it can mean to live at a slower pace surrounded by nature, even if it is for a short while, says Micha.
This idea of sharing their philosophy of life has resulted in them creating a separate bed and breakfast with room for two visitors. TypeO Loft is 50 square meters large and decorated with comfort and relaxation in mind. Everything is soft and harmoniously decorated with a few selected details. As an added bonus, you can also buy both the furniture and the selected accessories after checking out.
The room has an open floor plan between the bedroom, living room and kitchen. And views, through a triangular glass facade that extends from floor to ceiling, out over a large terrace and the surrounding landscape.
- Here you sit on the first floor for what nature offers; the light and shadows that change during the day and the changing of the seasons during the year, says Magnus.
Since the size of the room was limited, Micha and Magnus have thought a lot about the room's functionality and expression.
- We believe that the environment you choose to surround yourself with has the power to influence who you are. Therefore, it feels important to think carefully about that environment, and ask yourself what is a necessity and what is abundance. And to choose things that are natural and sustainable, says Micha.
The bespoke kitchen from Nordiska kök is an excellent example. The design has an immediate calming effect on the spectator. To give the visitor the experience of simplicity, relaxation and luxury that Micha and Magnus wanted, the kitchen has been designed to take up as little space as possible while accommodating all necessities and is fully functional for guests to indulge in cooking in. Behind one of the doors have both storage space and a compact oven. Another cupboard hides the beautiful hand-picked crockery and pots and a third cupboard houses a countertop fridge with freezer compartment. All these necessary appliances are hidden behind the doors to create a uniform and restful impression.
The countertop in Thala gray limestone breaks off beautifully and flirts with the stone-clad facade on the front of the house. The worktop has an integrated hob from Miele with a smart built-in fan to save space and avoid a bulky cover. The blackness of the slab is then picked up in the carbon black faucet, which becomes like a sculpture in the otherwise soft and soothing space.
The compact kitchen has no cupboards but instead there is a small shelf above the stove and sink. There, Magnus and Micha have placed a few selected porcelain objects. Otherwise, the beautiful compact kitchen must speak for itself. Read more about how to build a bespoke kitchen with us.
The walls in the room are painted with mineral paint in a warm beige shade and the floor and ceiling beams are dark stained and match the surrounding nature. The living area is decorated with Ligne Roset's classic Togo sofa upholstered in black leather that matches the faucet and a Noguchi table in the same color as the ceiling beams.
- We have been extremely selective in what has been let in - we have hand-picked beautiful and functional objects and solutions that add a deeper meaning to the space. Things that can bring us together, that can give rise to everyday rituals to gather around, says Magnus.
The grain in the wooden shutters and the pattern in the limestone make the stripped kitchen feel soft and natural and add warmth to the room. It is equipped with porcelain from Hasami Porcelain, glass from Studio Vit and kitchen utensils from Skeppshult. Part of the concept is that guests can choose to cook here from fresh ingredients from mostly local food artisans that are delivered in pre-composed meal kits.
