The water tower project
Some of us like to take the straight path home, others embark on the unknown and the challenging. Christina @wtpstudios belongs to that group. A couple of years ago, she decided to find a challenging housing project and create an exciting home for herself. With a background in marketing and communication, the interest in interior design and design has grown naturally and in recent years, a side business has gained momentum where she furnishes private homes.
- It made me to put all my creative qualities to the test in an exciting project, where I also had the privilege of living alone.

Not long after the idea for a challenging project had been born, the perfect object appeared - an apartment at the top of a water tower outside of Stockholm. The long narrow tower from 1910 is built in beautiful dark brown brick and has arched windows in different sizes.
In the mid-90s, the tower was converted into apartments because it did not serve as a water tower for a long time, in the 50s it was used as a pharmacy laboratory and then as an artist's studio.
The apartment was divided into two floors and the upper floor had a terrace with a mile-wide view in three directions. This opportunity was too good to be true, so bought it. But with a unique home comes unique challenges such as oddly placed windows, an apartment shape reminiscent of a piece of pie and a far too small elevator in which you could not carry building components.
The whole apartment has undergone a solid makeover. The stairs between the floors have been moved and where the previous stairs stood, the new kitchen has been moved in.
- The choice fell on Nordic kitchens, which have very beautiful and affordable kitchens. At first I had intended to have the kitchen in another part of the same room, but it soon became clear that this would be exactly where the kitchen would stand. Especially as it is the only straight wall, says Christina.
When Christina design kitchens for customers, she often tries to make it feel like furniture. Since the kitchens in apartments are usually not that large, you get a uniform and inviting impression if you choose to design the kitchens in a more furniture-like way, she says. In the water tower, the choice fell on a kitchen in dark stained oak.
Most of the doors have a push function, but the fridge, freezer and pantry have beautiful handles by the interior designer Vincent van Duysen - a beautiful detail in the otherwise very stripped-down kitchen. Two other details that set the tone are the contrasting arabescato marble and the beautiful Dornbracht faucet.
All choices have been turned and twisted both once and twice and nothing has been left to chance. The perfect marble top, the oak-clad insides on the cabinets and the small bookshelf closest to the window - everything is in highest quality and gives the whole home a very thoughtful feeling.
- The wall furthest from the window is not straight but the kitchen has been tailored exactly to the room and it is not visible. I am so happy with the result!
