Timeless wooden architect kitchen

In southwest Malmö in the Limhamn district you will find Bellevue. This iconic townhouse area was designed by architectural legends Fritz Jaenecke and Sten Samuelsson in the mid-1950s, and is a real cultural heritage with its modern and bold architecture that feels as relevant now as it did then.

To connect to the house's history and character, we created a kitchen that would reflect the architecture with a clear Scandinavian aesthetic and a design language that goes hand in hand with the rest of the beautiful townhouse.

The kitchen is built in natural materials where dark stained oak and Lemon Ice granite create a contrast-rich but timeless feeling.

We chose to build a kitchen that breathes 50s and 60s with great inspiration taken from the furniture design of that time. The choice fell on a dark stained wooden kitchen in oak with an elegant framework. The beautiful grain in the wood is reminiscent of precious wood such as rosewood and jacaranda, which are typical of this era. The site-built kitchen island is also designed to create a furniture feeling, which makes the kitchen feel airy and inviting.

The worktop is in granite Lemon Ice, with a calm and symmetrical pattern. Natural stone such as granite is durable and lasts over time, which is a good choice for a sustainable kitchen.

In this minimalistic designed kitchen, we have worked with material choices such as dark oak and limestone and used warm tones to soften the room. By building a kitchen on site, a feeling is created that the kitchen has been in place since the house was built, while at the same time you get a functional kitchen that meets all the wishes of a modern household.

The dark brown oak creates a kitchen that gives clear associations to the 50s when the house was built. For additional character, clear frames were chosen in kitchen doors and doors. This creates a grid that gives the room an architectural appearance and recreates the design language in the clear frames that sit around the windows of this iconic townhouse.

As the kitchen holds a lot of storage in the bottom cabinets and kitchen island, we left the walls free of top cabinets and mounted two neat oak shelves instead. Here you can place handmade ceramics and kitchen utensils that are used frequently. By opting out of cupboards, you create an airy and elegant impression in your kitchen.

The fan from Fjäråskupan is painted in the same color as the wall paint, which creates a stripped-down and uniform impression. Even details such as electrical outlets have been carefully matched with the kitchen's oven and stove, for a well-thought-out feeling.

To create a social kitchen where cooking is a way for the family to socialize, we built a kitchen island in the middle of the room. The kitchen island has open shelves towards the room to create an airy feeling and break away from the otherwise symmetrical and minimalist lines that are throughout the kitchen. The fan is from Fjäråskupan, and has been painted in the same warm beige tone as the walls, which creates a Scandinavian minimalist feeling that takes the kitchen into the present.

Dark wood is details that are common throughout the home, such as stairs and stair railings. Therefore, dark stained oak was an obvious choice for the design of the kitchen to create a common thread throughout the house.

The design of the kitchen in dark stain and retro design is reminiscent of Scandinavian mid-century furniture.

The entire kitchen is built throughout in dark stained oak and granite tops, except for the refrigerator and freezer which are in stainless steel. It creates an interesting contrast in the room, and makes the chocolate brown wooden doors feel like beautiful furniture.

The kitchen design takes inspiration from the house's architecture from the 50s and 60s. The result was a functional and stylish kitchen in consistently natural materials that feels constantly up-to-date regardless of trends that come and go.

An open shelf in the kitchen island is a nice detail to lighten up an otherwise symmetrically decorated room. Here, wonderful ceramic finds and cookbooks can be stored to create a personal touch in the kitchen.

When the kitchen was renovated, the owners also took the opportunity to add a beautiful limestone floor that gives a soft impression, and a wonderful contrast to the more unusual granite used in the worktops. The characteristic granite is also used in the splash guard with its slightly lower design.

Lemon Ice has sailed up to become one of the most popular choices of countertops for our customers. Lemon Ice is a beautiful granite with contrasting grain that changes to green and beige, and is durable and makes it a good choice for a kitchen that will last a long time.
