Classic bistro kitchen with Terrazzo

In this elegant kitchen, classic and modern design meet and create something out of the ordinary. The kitchen is built in the home of interior designer Gabriella Gullberg, who wanted to create a kitchen that suited the family's own style but at the same time let the house's soul be reflected in the kitchen by retaining elements from the era when the house was built.

Original details such as the beautiful parquet and chest panels have been preserved and gossip about the house's history and age. The modern frame kitchen with sliding doors with lined glass fits perfectly with the aesthetics of the home but gives a more updated and contemporary touch in a classic design language.

The kitchen is located in a 158 sqm large apartment in central Stockholm that Gabriella and her husband completely renovated when they moved in when the apartment has remained untouched since the 80s. With her experience as an interior designer and with her own personal style, Gabriella took on the entire interior and the result is a unique home with smart solutions and modern, elegant design.

The multicolored terrazzo is vibrant and lively. It had to set the tone for both the color and material choices in the kitchen, such as. the brass handles and the gray tone of the doors. Accessories such as porcelain and cutting boards have also been carefully selected to match the color of the board, which is used both as a worktop and splash guard.

As the family needed a lot of storage in the kitchen, and would like to have the opportunity to hide work surfaces and a coffee station, cupboards with pocket doors were high on the wish list. We therefore built one in the corner of the kitchen which was then clad in ash on the inside and equipped with solid wooden drawers.

We built the kitchen together with Gabriella and a lot of focus was put into developing a well-thought-out, personal and aesthetic kitchen. The choice landed on a modern frame kitchen with minimalist doors with added brass handles to reflect the house's architecture and history. Doors were then painted in a warm light beige tone to let the kitchen's big star shine - the colorful Terrazzo.

It is noticeable that the kitchen is located in a home where interest in interior design and color lives. The family wanted a kitchen that suited their style and felt playful while wanting an updated version of a classic kitchen.

The walls are painted in cream white and the original floor has been left to be sanded and oiled in a darker tone. By choosing colors that interact perfectly with the charismatic terrazzo stone, the kitchen feels creative and elegant at the same time.

A site-built wall shelf have also been placed in the passage into the kitchen with asymmetrical cabinets and open shelves lined with ash.

Terrazzo is a material that is both durable and easy to maintain. A beautiful and functional choice for a kitchen that is used often and where food is cooked together.

The kitchen is beautifully arranged with a row of top and bottom cabinets where line glass is placed in sliding doors on the top cabinets. The design is reminiscent of a classic display cabinet but feels more modern and functional by being lined over a wall. The dishwasher is hidden behind a kitchen door and the sink also blends elegantly into the worktop with a mixer in black to match the rest of the interior.

The top cabinets sit a little higher than standard dimensions to create an airy impression and let the terrazzo really take the place it deserves.

The jewel of the kitchen and also the hub of the house is the terrazzo-clad kitchen island which is truly a work of art in itself.
