AO/JN Interiors' inspiring design studio
AO/JN Interior's design studio in the heart of Stockholm is small, but the feeling is tickling grand. In the middle of the reduced Scandinavian there is a strong international touch with veined stone, sculptural forms and subtle details. Come along into the working world of the design duo Alexandra Ogonowski and Jesper Nyborg - with solid materials, well-thought-out design and several kitchens created together with Nordiska Kök.
At the end of Roslagsgatan in Stockholm is AO/JN Interiors' light and airy design studio. Behind a large kitchen island that looks more like a sculptural element, interior designer Alexandra Ogonowski and interior architect Jesper Nyborg stand looking over a color palette.
We usually take the big steps first and do an elaborate preliminary study, then we go into detail with things like materials and colors, says Jesper.
They often outline their design approaches together and have been working that way since their first joint project in autumn 2021.
We immediately felt that we clicked and had similar references and the same approach to design, Jesper says who, like Alexandra, gets a lot of inspiration through travel.
Something always happens when you change environment and experience new cultures and people. We are greatly inspired by French and Belgian design. They work there with a reduced color and material palette that feels warmer and a little more inviting than the otherwise Scandinavian one, they say.
The need for a meeting place for customers and suppliers made them invest in their own showroom. There they can show off color combinations, different surface treatments and materials in an inspiring way.
But we were also looking for a peaceful environment where we could work creatively on a daily basis, says the duo.
The work bench in dark stained oak with the Italian Calacatta Monet marble, is not only an eye-catcher, but also shows many central parts of their design thinking.
We wanted to weave together function with design and some less subtle details, which are also very visible in our design philosophy, they say.
It's about stone meeting wood, but also function through storage in the many drawers that can be pulled out in both directions. Here, they can easily collect the material decisions that various projects lead to.
Behind the kitchen island, a wide stone staircase leads into a kitchenette, also developed together with Nordiska Kök.
We wanted the kitchen to feel like a smooth transition from the travertine. The fittings in hammered bronze have been produced by our blacksmith. They become a contrast to the other colors and material choices, where soft meets hard and sculptural. The tactile is an important part of our design and because we chose a neutral white color for the doors, we still want you to feel and see the grain through, they explain.
As in many of AO/JN interiors' projects, the kitchen is specially designed.
Just like us, Nordiska Kök dares to think outside the box, they are solution-oriented and have respect for our way of working, knowledge and our crazy ideas. It feels safe that the production is in Sweden and that they are very good to deal with in the entire process, from the drawing stage to the finished product, says Alexandra and Jesper, who designed several kitchens together with Nordiska Kök. And they hope there will be more.
