The return of the white kitchens

So, what do white kitchens look like today? In the early 2000s, the kitchens were chalk white and high gloss and often matched by oak countertops. Since then, we have chosen to paint our kitchens in both dark tones and light natural colors.

Today the trend clearly points towards a matte finish and broken whites. Regardless of which tone you choose the shade affects the overall impression more than you might think and makes the kitchen feel well designed and contemporary.

It is not only the tone and the gloss of the surface that distinguish the new white kitchens from previous versions. The preferred design of the kitchens and choice of countertop have also been updated.

As for the design, today we focus on straight lines and balance. The impression should be calm, clean and elegant. This is achieved by choosing larger cabinet doors, integrating appliances into the cabinetry and hidden drawers. You can also calm down the impression by painting the walls in the same tone as the kitchen, or a slightly lighter or darker version of the same color.

When it comes to countertops, there are two parallel trends. The first is to choose a light, natural limestone with a soft pattern, preferably in a shade that matches the white. The combination of the cabinets and limestone gives the room a harmonious and grounding feeling. It is soft, calming and inviting.

The other countertop trend also includes natural stone but in this case marble with dramatic patterns. The intention here is for the dramatic contrasts in the stone to give the room a timeless, luxurious, and elegant feel.

If you don't want natural stone, you can always choose a countertop in a composite material in the same tone as the kitchen.

Another trend is that people like to add grounding elements to the kitchen. This can be done partly by matching the white cabinet doors with details in wood or by painting wooden doors so that the grain can be seen through the varnish.
