The Scandinavian Classic kitchen
This modern kitchen captures the soothing ambiance of the west coast, characterized by light greige shades, sleek lines, and a quartzite countertop. A modern classic kitchen where traditional design meets contemporary detailing in sophisticated harmony.
In the heart of Särö, a village in the archipelago of the Swedish west coast, we find a charming house filled with personality. Särö, known for its soothing nature, picturesque cliffs and stunning ocean views, is also a wonderful place to call home. Three years ago, Josefin Nerme moved in with her husband, their two children, and their dog. The family wanted to embark on the renovation journey the right way, paying homage to the classic landscape but with modern infusions, and wanting to truly understand the home they were updating.
– Our first step was going back in time, figuring out what the house looked like in the 1920s. A lot of original detailing had been removed in previous renovations, so naturally, we were eager to bring back the authentic feel, Josefin explains.
The original plan for the kitchen was to settle for a classic, farmhouse-style, easily matched with the overarching interior. Similarly, the couple wanted to combine modern design with classic features, searching for an updated contrast ready to stand the test of time. The result – a timeless kitchen that breathed Scandinavian minimalism but updated with classic details. A truly unique design that will stand the test of time, while also being a new and exciting room to enjoy.
The light greige cabinets provide a relaxing base color to the kitchen. To add in an exciting contrast and bring in the surrounding nature in a subtle yet noticeable way, a green countertop in J’adore quartzite compliments the space.
– We wanted to connect with nature through our kitchen space. When deciding on the green quartzite, it felt like nature moved in.
Perfectly located in the middle of the room is the kitchen island, a natural workspace as well as a social hub for family and guests alike. During the sketching process, they imagined a bustling social space, where friends and family can gather along to cook and spend time together.
