Kitchen trends 2023

Curious about the kitchen trends for 2024?

We are slowly approaching another turn of the year and, as in previous years, we predicts the trends for the coming year.  Now more than ever, we are inspired by nature and sustainability, which Nordiska Kök always encourages. In general, we place great value on function, but a feeling that the kitchen moves into the living room and becomes a natural part of the overall interior is growing.

Appliances are built in completely and the shape of the kitchen often imitates an elegant sideboard more than a row of kitchen cupboards. More people venture into eye-catching and personal details and natural materials such as wood and stone continue their journey of success.

White kitchens make a comeback

Y2Ks craze for glossy white kitchens made us crave colors, well greige at least, for years. But now all is forgiven, and we welcome the white kitchens back into the warmth. Of course, our “2023-version” doesn't look anything like what we saw twenty years ago. Today we want bespoke kitchens in matte, off-white tones.

Our white kitchen exudes timelessness and elegance, and the white shade calms the room and lets the design steal the light. Instead of mosaics, white tiles or wallpaper, we match our designed, white kitchens with countertops in natural stone like marble and limestone or stainless steel.

Kitchen with personal details

A new kitchen is an investment for the future, and we need to be conscious about the environmental impact we make when we build something new. Therefore, we want to design kitchens that you won’t grow tired of and that exude timeless elegance. One way we do this is to design unique kitchens that don’t compromise on the details. For these very reasons, we pay careful consideration to the choice of countertops.

If you choose natural stone, the pattern and color of the stone will set the mood for the entire room. A stone with a lot of contrast and drama gives a very elegant, luxurious and unique impression. Combine your high-contrast stone with a designed kitchen with matt-lacquered doors and few exclusive details.

Bespoke and timeless

Whether we are doing compact living in a studio apartment or have a full size kitchen trend points to kitchens that match the overall architecture. The kitchens often mimic bespoke furniture and blend into the room. Necessities such as fridge, freezer and coffee maker are hidden behind cabinet and pocket doors. If there is space, we skip the overhead cabinets which leaves the room airy and spacious.

Part of this trend is about creating a calm timelessness in your home. A kitchen that blends into the architecture feels like it’s always been there and will hopefully stay for a long time.

Wooden kitchens - a never ending love story

The longing for the natural, genuine, and organic is still vast and therefore our love story with wooden kitchens continues. The beautifully veined doors and cabinets, the warm tones, the soothing feel, and the artisanal look almost give us butterflies.

We recommend combining a wooden kitchen with a countertop in the same tone of wood or one in natural stone. Our wooden kitchens are inspired by our Scandinavian design icons and their uncompromising designs as well as Japanese aesthetics and its love for the material. If you want to work conceptually with your interior design and have a consistent theme where a certain type of wood figures, it is perfect to install a wooden kitchen in the same tone.

Curved kitchen design

Symmetry and bespoke design... You might think that kitchens in 2023 will be a little square and plain, but the minimalistic design we dream of can be softened with rounded corners. The luxurious curves give that exclusive, timeless expression that is so desirable. In addition, they give the kitchen that ”furniture-like” and “hidden” feeling.

The curves can be added on each side if the counter is shorter than the wall, or along one side of a cabinet that is visible from an adjoining room. The effect is astonishing - with small means you manage to create something that feels both unique, exclusive, and inviting.
