Kenza's farmhouse kitchen

Step into the charming country kitchen of Swedish entrepreneur and influencer Kenza Zouiten Subosic and her husband Aleks in their newly renovated summer house in the Stockholm archipelago. Located in an old farmhouse dating back to the 1800s, the bespoke farmhouse kitchen features solid oak, timeless details, and a striking custom-made kitchen island in dark oak, ready to take center stage as the heart of the room.

Kenza and Aleks wanted a kitchen that would resonate with the house's interior, and the choice was a rustic kitchen in a light beige shade with classic details.

When Kenza and Aleks began searching for their new summer house the vision was clear from the very beginning; The couple desired a traditional home, an investment for the future intended to be passed down to their children. They bought Asplunden, a charming property with roots dating back to the late 1800s.

“Nothing had felt quite right before, but with Asplunden it was different. I fell head over heels; it truly felt like we could create our dream home here”, says Kenza.

A top priority for both Kenza and Aleks was to design a kitchen space that resonates with Asplunden’s rich history and original details. Picture Scandinavian sleekness with a genuine, less polished feel. They settled on a farmhouse-style kitchen, embracing traditional design and aesthetics.

The display cabinet has a blue interior, and in front of the window, there is a kitchen bench with both storage and a cozy kitchen hangout.

We aspired to create an authentic space with a touch of luxury and had heard wonderful things about Nordiska Kök. It felt like they truly understood our vision and the style we desired. Working collaboratively with Nordiska Kök’s own design team and our architect Ariel from Studio Ram, we brought our dream kitchen to life. The result is exactly what we imagined, if not even better.

The kitchen worktop is made from natural stone from Kinnekulle, with a lively pattern that adds character to the kitchen. The couple had decided to keep the original open fireplace and therefore the kitchen was built to integrate it into the space.

- It was important for both of us to maintain as much original detailing as possible, especially the old fireplace. It stood out from the very beginning; the kitchen’s overarching interior is fully based on the fireplace.

The couple has added traditional woodwork details even on the exterior, and the house has been repainted in a more period-appropriate color.

In addition to the kitchen's farmhouse, classic design and the well-thought-out solutions, the kitchen island is what captures the most attention, feeling like a stunning piece of furniture in the middle of the room. The kitchen island, handcrafted from solid oak is uniquely designed for Kenza and Aleks' kitchen.

They desired a space for socializing but also ample workspace. The design facilitates both needs. The carved legs and beautiful brass details enhance the classic feel that the couple aimed for, all to evoke the nostalgia of the time when the house was originally built, but still with the functionality of the modern families needs.

“The kitchen island turned out amazing. We´re always around when we have guests over, especially when someone is preparing a meal. It’s a personal favorite, along with the display cabinet - I really love the infusion of blue on the inside”, Kenza says.

Behind the hand-painted doors, both the refrigerator and freezer are concealed.

The interior of the display cabinet is blue, creating a smooth contrast to the softly beige tone of the doors.
