The Rustic Cottage kitchen

On the idyllic island of Öland, off Sweden's southeastern coast, Julia and Carl-Henrik live in a classic Swedish red cottage with white trim. After years of longing for a place of their own, they found the small cottage that they now call home.

The house was in dire need of renovation, and, naturally, they chose a rustic shaker kitchen. The warm green kitchen with hints of green not only caters to their daily needs but also fulfill their dream of a timeless design to cherish for years to come.

Julia and Carl-Henrik had actually paused their search after a long period without finding the perfect house. Then suddenly, the cottage on Röhällavägen appeared in the search results. The first picture, a charming old cottage painted in classic Falun red with white trim, caught Julia's attention, and she quickly filled with a feeling that here they had all the possibilities to create the home they had long dreamt of. The couple made an offer, and already the next day, they signed the contract.

- The first time I stepped into the cottage, I immediately felt that there was something special about this place. I wandered through the various rooms of the cottage, admiring the view and quickly asked myself how I could persuade my partner that this is our place on Earth, Julia says

What would a country kitchen be without a little cat?

When it came to envisioning how the kitchen, the heart of their home, should look, the choice swiftly landed on a rustic Shaker kitchen from Nordiska Kök. The couple wanted the kitchen to seamlessly fit in with the otherwise rural and rustic interior of their home. Beyond its aesthetics, it was of paramount importance that the kitchen be practical and cater to the couple's everyday needs.

The small red cottage with white corners on Röhällavägen in Öland eventually became Julia and Carl-Henrik's home.

- We wanted a kitchen that was unique and tailored to our needs and preferences. Nordiska Kök's ability to provide this was a key factor in our decision. The rustic style we chose exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere that truly complements our home. The rustic details and the solid feel that rural decor brings are something we love. It's a style that is not only beautiful but also creates a sense of comfort and relaxation in the kitchen, Julia says.

Julia and Henrik knew they wanted a rustic-style kitchen that would match the rest of the interior in the house, and they chose Nordiska Kök for the opportunity to have it custom-built to their preferences and needs.

The rustic decor is consistent throughout the house, from the kitchen to the floors, ceilings, and furniture.

For Julia and Carl-Henrik, it was essential to have a kitchen where everything was easily accessible and practical. A space with plenty of room to cook and store kitchen essentials. A kitchen that simplifies their daily lives while making cooking an enjoyable activity.

At the same time, they wanted a kitchen with a timeless design that perfectly complemented their interior. The choice of the shaker style was no accident. With its classic design, the kitchen is given a timeless beauty that both Julia and Carl-Henrik truly appreciate.

- The best thing about the kitchen is that it's both functional and beautiful. It's a place where we can cook and spend time with family and friends, all while enjoying its style and elegance every day, says the couple.

Beautiful details add both personality and character to the kitchen.

From the kitchen, there is a view of the living room with the beautiful tiled stove.

The new kitchen is complemented by beautiful, period-appropriate details such as a sink and faucet from the turn of the century by Sekelskifte, and appliances from Lofra. Other interior elements like shelves and decorations have been collected by the couple over the years and play a significant role in creating the cozy and warm atmosphere that envelops the entire home.

- For us, the opportunity to have a bespoke kitchen that would fit our home, its decor, dimensions, and our needs was very important. It was also crucial for us that the kitchen exuded quality and craftsmanship while not being overly expensive. When we discovered that Nordiska Kök offered all of this, the choice for us became very easy. To us, the kitchen is the most important place in our home, and that's why it was essential for us that everything felt just right, Julia shares.
